MAS 9 automation scripting and integration for developers
Learn to write, debug and ship automation scripts and integrations in Maximo Application Suite 9, starting from the Python, Jython and Java basics. Self-paced video lessons, each with a hands-on exercise you do on your own Maximo system.
Bring your own Maximo
This course does not include a Maximo system. To do the exercises you need access to your own non-production MAS 9 Manage environment (a dev or test system), with permission to use the Automation Scripts application, object structures and API keys. Module 0 includes a setup checklist you can hand to your Maximo administrator.
Most of the course also applies to Maximo 7.6 scripting, but the screens, logging and deployment steps are shown in MAS 9.
Who it is for
Developers and technical consultants at Maximo consultancies and Maximo customers. It suits people new to Maximo scripting, and people who know Maximo 7.6 and are moving to MAS 9.
You do not need any previous Python or Java knowledge.

Getting set up
What you need on your dev system, a setup checklist covering security groups, application access, logging and sample data, and how the exercises work.
Part 1 · Module 1
Python, Jython and Java for Maximo developers
Python essentials, why Maximo uses Python 2.7 through Jython, just enough Java, calling psdi.* classes from a script, and reading the Maximo Java API documentation.
Part 1 · Module 2
Automation script fundamentals in MAS 9
Script types and launch points, implicit variables and bindings, logging with service.log, and where scripts run and log in MAS 9.
Part 1 · Module 3
Working with MBOs and MboSets
Reading and setting values, relationships, looping through sets without performance traps, and creating, duplicating, deleting and saving records.
Part 2 · Module 4
Business logic patterns
Validation with proper error messages, defaults, required and read-only fields, conditions, actions, escalations, workflow, library scripts and scripted cron tasks.
Part 2 · Module 5
Integration
Object structures and the MAS REST/JSON API, custom REST endpoints built with scripts, inbound and outbound integration scripts, and calling external REST APIs.
Part 2 · Module 6
Debugging, testing and deployment
Debugging and reading logs in MAS 9, keeping scripts in version control, and moving them between environments with Migration Manager and DBC files.
Part 2 · Module 7
Capstone project
Build one end-to-end feature that combines validation, a custom REST endpoint and an outbound notification, with a worked solution.
